Master’s Thesis project at Toronto Metropolitan University
The project began with a multi-method research phase, including a literature review on psychedelic drugs in therapeutic contexts, an exploration of VR-assisted psychotherapy, and interviews with individuals who had personal experience with psychedelics. Insights from this research informed the design of an immersive virtual reality experience set in a desert landscape.
The environment emulated perceptual distortions commonly associated with psychedelics, such as shifting textures, blurred vision, floating sensations, and altered color perception, which were triggered dynamically to create a disorienting yet exploratory user journey.
UI Designs
Menus for loading screen and options elements were created for the immersive experience.Trailer for Mirage
I created a prototype trailer to display the visual experience for users when in the VR experience.Demo 1: Heightened colour saturation and distortion effects
Demo 2: Blurred vision and physical displacement effects
